I'm currently reading this book. It was written in 1953.

I'm halfway through and I must say it is a great read. It's very dense though, loads of stuff to consider and make you think. I posted it here because it's obviously a book thread, but I considered the personal development/philosophy forum too.

Here's an excerpt from a chapter titled "Education and World Peace".

Quote:
To discover what part education can play in the present world crisis, we should understand how that crisis has come into being. It is obviously the result of wrong values in our relationship to people, to property and to ideas. If our relationship with others is based on self-aggrandizement, and our relationship to property is acquisitive, the structure of society is bound to be competitive and self-isolating. If in our relationship with ideas we justify one ideology in opposition to another, mutual distrust and ill-will are the inevitable results.

This part, as you can see, is already VERY dense with information and deeper reasoning. The part I highlighted in bold is something I can find a lot of how I see things in.

He continues:

Quote:
Another cause of the present chaos is dependence on authority, on leaders, whether in daily life, in the small school or in the university. Leaders and their authority are deteriorating factors in any culture. When we follow another there is no understanding, but only fear and conformity, eventually leading to the cruelty of the totalitarion State and the dogmatism of organized religion.

The bolded part is a simple sentence, but an incredibly valuable in my eyes. What happens when you follow with understanding? Is that considered following, is such a thing even possible?

2 bolded :

Caveman logic = dont blindly follow anyone. Your the most important person. Whats meant by that sentence to me is you cant understand the person your following inner agenda or know their true purpose, you lack the true understanding of ones true actions, so dont follow...do you...cuz you KNOW and UNDERSTAND your agenda.

Other bold, yes experiences in relationships reflect on you, group and social activity meaning check this example ki is a asshole, self promoter, im about ME (although i support others) but society will be greedy if theres alot of that, indeed it was for a very long time. That sentence is observation based more than anything.

But hey, not everyone knows their OWN agenda.

You meet people like that all the time. They do and say things, but they don't understand their inner workings that bring these thoughts or actions about. In effect, they don't know anything about themselves, except what their ego tells them they are.
They probably experience insights about themselves though, there is just no space reserved in their mind to allocate these thoughts, so they bubble up and disappear instantly, or severely cripple them emotionally for short periods of time (crying, screaming, attention-seeking, etc.). It is a type of unconscious fear of the ego. It is easily threatened by insight into itself, so if it dominates, it automatically tries to block thoughts and feelings that attack it.
99.99% of people live with this day to day, it is what causes most of our suffering IMO, as the ways in which we vent these frustrations are so numerous. Our creative force becomes our curse and by finding new ways to destroy the inner thoughts that plague our minds, we build an outer world to reflect this destruction.

Or, you know, some people are pretty shallow.

LOL XPreNN i read your post, rip agrees, but i must say i dont give a fuck about weak hearted, weak minded kats like that. If you dont know yourself, you dont know anything and you need to love yourself and know thy self first in life. And ITS SAD most of population is like that, thats why i say overall human beings arent shit esp to what they could be...

I think my 2 synopsis were very accurate of bolded sentences you highlighted.

"You meet people like that all the time. They do and say things, but they don't understand their inner workings that bring these thoughts or actions about. In effect, they don't know anything about themselves, except what their ego tells them they are."

Then they arent thinking...

"They probably experience insights about themselves though, there is just no space reserved in their mind to allocate these thoughts, so they bubble up and disappear instantly, or severely cripple them emotionally for short periods of time (crying, screaming, attention-seeking, etc.). "

Grown men think with logic from their mind, not there heart

"It is a type of unconscious fear of the ego. It is easily threatened by insight into itself, so if it dominates, it automatically tries to block thoughts and feelings that attack it."

A person like me with super consciousness doesnt compute such actions ^

"99.99% of people live with this day to day, it is what causes most of our suffering IMO, as the ways in which we vent these frustrations are so numerous. Our creative force becomes our curse and by finding new ways to destroy the inner thoughts that plague our minds, we build an outer world to reflect this destruction."

Then i must be an advance form of human, and my statement stands, overall 99% of homo sapiens aint shit and think they are gods when they are fools destroying even the planet they live on and themselves by letting greed compromise their logic.

"Or, you know, some people are pretty shallow."

I like chicks like that though...one night stands...
